Giuseppe Freinademetz was born in Oies, Badia in 1852. After taking his ordination of diocese of Bressanone in 1875 and having spent about 2 years in San Martino in Badia, he went to Austria in order to prepare for a life as a missionary.
His future life had to be in China, Hong Kong.
All his life was devoted to Chinese people and he faced persecution and death threats until a severe illness caused his dead in 1908. Many letters written to his family witness the love for his homeland and underline the importance of faith which he relentlessly tried to spread. He was declared Holy by Pope Paulus II on the 5 October 2003.
- Museo della Grande Guerra – Passo Val Parola
A real jewel this permanent exhibition displaying historical material of the First World War.
Military equipment, documents, artefacts offer stark evidence of the persecution and slaughter that characterized those years that could be defined as the dark age of the Dolomites.
The museum finds his appropriate site inside the fortress once used as military base.
