HIKING
Val Travenanzes
From our own personal point of view, this is the full monty between the hikes in the Dolomites.
There are many reasons for this choice: classic views of the Dolomites, everchanging scenery, wild, unspoilt nature and the Dolomites's highest waterfall captivate the attention of the spectator that can't feel less than a visitor in paradise.
Another reason would be the nearly ghostly feeling to be on your own exploring new torritory. As this is not a walk for the faint-hearted, especially because of it's lenght, you will probably spend the whole day on your own with nature and the few people you will meet on your way will be a glad surprise.
The hike starts at the top of the Falzarego cable-car, an area known to be the central arena for the many bloody Austrian-Italian battles during the First World War.
The surroundings still bear evidence of fortifications and trench mazes used by the soldiers.
From the top you embark on the long descent through the wild and from the Glacial Era weathered Val Travenanzes until you enter the territory of the Parco Dolomiti d'Ampezzo.
This hike ends in Fiames, close to the famous Cortina d'Ampezzo.
We recommend
Hikers, climbers and families mingle with the Italian famous and wannabes that are in the believe, Cortina is still the en-vogue spot for social and fashionable holidays.
